Rick Boers vs Anthropic Claude
Explore what we can build. Examples describe possible workflows; integrations, hosting, and scope are agreed for your project.
Claude is Anthropic's consumer and business AI assistant, available on web, desktop, and mobile, powered by its frontier models (Fable 5, Opus 4.8, and Sonnet 5 as of mid-2026). Beyond chat, the subscription now bundles agentic surfaces: Claude Cowork for multi-step task automation across your files and tools (with cloud-run scheduled tasks and remote sessions), Claude Code for software work, Claude Design for prototypes and visuals, and Claude Tag, a persistent AI teammate inside Slack for Team/Enterprise customers. It is one of the most widely used AI products in the world and is actively shipping features as of July 2026.
Rick Boers is an independent AI product builder. I design and build custom agents, document workflows, internal tools, and complete web and mobile applications, with one person owning the work from brief to delivery.
At a glance
| Comparison dimension | Rick Boers | Anthropic Claude |
|---|---|---|
| Always-on computer | Hosting and runtime architecture are chosen for your project; dedicated VMs are one option. | No persistent machine per user — Cowork remote sessions run in isolated per-session sandboxes on Anthropic infrastructure that are created at session start and destroyed at session end (session files persist with your Claude account), and scheduled tasks and remote sessions do keep running while your device is offline. |
| Tool integrations | I build integrations around the tools your workflow needs. Access, permissions, API availability, and any service subscriptions are checked and scoped before implementation. | Connectors Directory with hundreds of MCP-based integrations (Gmail, Google Workspace, Slack, Notion, GitHub, Microsoft 365 with write access to Outlook mail, calendar, and SharePoint files, and more), plus direct local file and app access through the Cowork desktop app. |
| Messaging channels | Messaging or web interfaces are implemented where supported and included in the agreed scope. | Web, desktop apps (macOS/Windows, Linux in beta since July 2026), and iOS/Android with push notifications when a task finishes or needs approval; Cowork also on web and mobile. Slack via Claude Tag (Team/Enterprise beta). No iMessage/SMS, WhatsApp, or Telegram for the consumer assistant (Claude Code has Telegram/Discord channels tied to a dev session on your machine). |
| Persistent memory | Storage and memory can be designed for the workflow, with retention and access controls agreed first. | Yes — memory is on for all plans including Free (since March 2026), stored as individual categorized entries (since a July 2026 update) that you can view and edit, with project-scoped memory; Claude Tag additionally builds long-term context from Slack channels. |
| Background automations | Scheduled and background jobs can be included with monitoring, limits, and human review where needed. | Cowork scheduled tasks run hourly, daily, weekly, or on weekdays in the cloud with no device online, each as its own session, on all paid plans (rolling out starting with Max); Claude Tag (Team/Enterprise) can schedule tasks for itself and pursue projects over hours or days. |
| Pricing | The first 20-minute fit call is free. Paid work is scoped individually. We agree the deliverables, price, and payment milestones before work begins; hosting and model costs depend on the system we build. | Check the provider’s current pricing and plan limits. |
Where Anthropic Claude shines
- Frontier in-house models — Claude Fable 5 (Anthropic's frontier model, included in Max and Team Premium plans at 50% of limits from July 20, 2026, and via usage credits on Pro), plus Opus 4.8 and Sonnet 5 as strong everyday reasoning and coding models.
- One subscription spans many surfaces: chat, Cowork (agentic tasks), Claude Code, Claude Design, Claude Science, Projects/Artifacts, Microsoft 365 integration, and web/desktop/mobile apps.
- Cowork scheduled tasks and remote sessions (beta) run in the cloud with no device online, continue across devices in the same conversation, and push-notify you when work is done or needs approval.
- Massive integration ecosystem: an official Connectors Directory with hundreds of MCP-based connectors (including read-and-write tiers), plus local file and application access through the Cowork desktop app.
- Enterprise maturity — SSO, SCIM, audit logs, compliance API, HIPAA-ready configuration, spend controls, and model entitlements — and memory is free on every plan, including Free.
Where it falls short
- No persistent computer per agent: Cowork's remote sandboxes are ephemeral — created when a session starts and destroyed when it ends — so there is no long-lived disk or logged-in browser an agent owns between tasks (session files are saved to your Claude account, and desktop Cowork uses your own machine instead).
- Anthropic models only: no option to route work to GPT, Gemini, or Grok, and no native raster image generation — Claude Design produces live HTML prototypes, decks, and exports, not photorealistic images.
- Proactive, ambient behavior and the persistent Slack teammate (Claude Tag) are gated to Team/Enterprise beta; individual Pro/Max users get pull-based chat plus push notifications rather than an agent that initiates contact.
- No consumer messaging channels — you cannot text claude.ai over iMessage/SMS, WhatsApp, or Telegram (Claude Code offers Telegram/Discord channels, but those attach to a coding session running on your own machine).
- Usage is metered by 5-hour rolling windows plus weekly caps shared across chat, Claude Code, and Cowork, so continuous always-on agent workloads hit limits or push you toward Max ($100-$200/mo) or API-rate Enterprise pricing.
Choose Anthropic Claude if…
- You want the best general-purpose AI assistant for interactive work — writing, analysis, coding, research — and first access to Anthropic's frontier models, including Fable 5.
- Your agentic needs center on your own files and mainstream SaaS tools, where Cowork's local desktop access, hundreds of connectors, and cloud scheduled tasks already cover the workflow.
- You need enterprise governance (SSO, SCIM, audit logs, HIPAA, spend controls) or want a shared, proactive AI teammate inside Slack via Claude Tag on a Team/Enterprise plan.
- You want a strong free tier — Claude's free plan includes memory, web search, connectors, skills, and file creation with no card required.
Choose Rick Boers if…
- You need a custom workflow or product built around your team.
- You want one builder to own design, implementation, and delivery.
- Your project needs integrations or behavior beyond a packaged tool.
- You need a custom workflow or product built around your team.
Common questions
Is Claude better than Rick Boers?
This comparison is between using a packaged tool and commissioning a custom system. Provider features change; check current documentation. For a custom build, we agree the specific workflow, infrastructure, integrations, and operating responsibilities.
Can Claude run tasks while my computer is off?
Yes. As of July 2026, Cowork remote sessions (beta) and scheduled tasks run on Anthropic's cloud infrastructure with no device online, and you get a push notification when work is done. The difference from Rick Boers is that each Cowork task runs in a temporary sandbox destroyed when the session ends — files are saved back to your Claude account — rather than on a persistent machine the agent keeps between tasks.
Can I message Claude on Slack or WhatsApp?
Slack, yes — Claude Tag (public beta since June 23, 2026) puts a persistent, proactive @Claude in Slack channels, but only for Team and Enterprise customers. There is no WhatsApp, iMessage/SMS, or Telegram channel for the consumer assistant; Claude Code offers Telegram/Discord channels, but those connect to a coding session on your own machine. Individual users interact through the web, desktop, and mobile apps, with push notifications for finished tasks.
