Rick Boers vs Claude Cowork
Explore what we can build. Examples describe possible workflows; integrations, hosting, and scope are agreed for your project.
Claude Cowork is Anthropic's agentic knowledge-work product built into the Claude apps: you hand off a task, and Claude works end-to-end in folders and tools you choose — reading and writing files, using connectors, and showing each step for review. It launched as a macOS research preview in January 2026, hit general availability on desktop (macOS and Windows) in April, and expanded to web and mobile in July 2026 with beta remote sessions that run on Anthropic's servers and scheduled tasks that run with no device online. It is included in every paid Claude plan rather than sold separately.
Rick Boers is an independent AI product builder. I design and build custom agents, document workflows, internal tools, and complete web and mobile applications, with one person owning the work from brief to delivery.
At a glance
| Comparison dimension | Rick Boers | Claude Cowork |
|---|---|---|
| Always-on computer | Hosting and runtime architecture are chosen for your project; dedicated VMs are one option. | No dedicated per-user machine: desktop mode runs in a sandboxed shell on your own computer, while the July 2026 remote beta runs session-based work in isolated environments on Anthropic's servers (files saved to your Claude account), not a persistent always-on VM you own. |
| Tool integrations | I build integrations around the tools your workflow needs. Access, permissions, API availability, and any service subscriptions are checked and scoped before implementation. | Connectors directory of hundreds of verified MCP integrations (roughly 340-440 per third-party trackers, e.g. Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Slack, GitHub, GitLab) plus plugins, skills, local MCP servers, and Claude-in-Chrome browser/computer use on desktop. |
| Messaging channels | Messaging or web interfaces are implemented where supported and included in the agreed scope. | Claude apps only — desktop (macOS and Windows), web at claude.ai, and iOS/Android with status updates on your phone; no iMessage/SMS, WhatsApp, or Telegram presence. |
| Persistent memory | Storage and memory can be designed for the workflow, with retention and access controls agreed first. | Yes — memory carries context across sessions (viewable, editable, deletable by the user), and remote sessions save files and session state to your Claude account across devices. |
| Background automations | Scheduled and background jobs can be included with monitoring, limits, and human review where needed. | Scheduled tasks (hourly, daily, weekdays, weekly, or on-demand) run remotely on Anthropic's servers with no device online; in beta on all paid plans, rolling out Max-first, and limited to connectors plus account-saved files (no local folders). |
| Pricing | The first 20-minute fit call is free. Paid work is scoped individually. We agree the deliverables, price, and payment milestones before work begins; hosting and model costs depend on the system we build. | Check the provider’s current pricing and plan limits. |
Where Claude Cowork shines
- First-party access to frontier Claude models with Anthropic's own agent harness, and a unified product across desktop (macOS and Windows), web, and mobile (iOS/Android) where sessions follow your account.
- Deep local-computer work on desktop: a sandboxed shell working in folders you choose, real document output (Word, Excel with working formulas, PowerPoint, PDF), and browser/computer use via Claude in Chrome.
- Huge integration surface — a connectors directory with hundreds of verified MCP integrations (roughly 340-440 per third-party trackers as of mid-2026, e.g. Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Slack, GitHub) plus plugins and skills for domain workflows.
- Very low entry cost: bundled into Claude Pro at $20/mo with no separate product fee, scaling to Team and Enterprise plans with enterprise controls (SSO, SCIM, audit logs, compliance API on Enterprise).
- Cloud scheduled tasks (added July 2026) run on Anthropic's servers with no device online, and proven adoption at scale — Anthropic analyzed 1.2M sessions across 600,000+ organizations, over 90% non-coding work.
Where it falls short
- No dedicated always-on computer per agent: remote execution is a session-based beta on Anthropic's shared servers, and the full capability set (local files, live artifacts, browser/computer use, local MCP servers) still requires your desktop app to be open.
- It's one assistant you assign tasks to — parallel sessions exist, but there are no multiple hireable agents with their own identities; proactivity is limited to scheduled tasks and status updates, and a human review step is built into the workflow by design.
- Claude models only — no ability to route work to GPT, Gemini, or Grok, and no built-in image-generation model choice.
- No presence on messaging channels: you can't text it over iMessage/SMS, WhatsApp, or Telegram; all interaction happens inside the Claude apps.
- Agentic tasks burn plan usage limits far faster than chat, and web/mobile remote mode plus scheduled tasks were still in beta and gated Max-first as of July 2026.
Choose Claude Cowork if…
- You already pay for Claude Pro or Max and want capable agentic document, spreadsheet, and research work at no extra cost.
- Your work centers on files on your own computer and you want a supervised agent with visible steps and a human-review checkpoint, not an autonomous worker acting unattended.
- You need enterprise procurement boxes ticked — SSO, SCIM, audit logs, and a compliance API on the Enterprise plan — from a major AI lab.
- You want the deepest first-party Claude experience: frontier Claude models, the official connectors directory, and skills/plugins maintained by Anthropic.
Choose Rick Boers if…
- You need a custom workflow or product built around your team.
- You want one builder to own design, implementation, and delivery.
- Your project needs integrations or behavior beyond a packaged tool.

Common questions
Is Claude Cowork better than Rick Boers?
This comparison is between using a packaged tool and commissioning a custom system. Provider features change; check current documentation. For a custom build, we agree the specific workflow, infrastructure, integrations, and operating responsibilities.
Does Claude Cowork work when my computer is off?
Partly. Since July 2026, remote sessions (in beta, Max plans first) run on Anthropic's servers, so a task keeps going after you close your laptop, and scheduled tasks run with no device online at all. But the full experience — local file access, live artifacts, native browser and computer use, local MCP servers — still requires the desktop app running on your machine.
How much does Claude Cowork cost?
The first 20-minute fit call is free. Paid work is scoped individually. We agree the deliverables, price, and payment milestones before work begins; hosting and model costs depend on the system we build.
